Microsoft has expanded its Window Server family with Windows 2008 Server foundation, which is mainly targetted at small businesses with 15 or fewer employees.  And of course it can grow with the business by providing the ability to upgrade to other editions of Windows Server.  Applications that have been certified for Windows Server 2008 can be deployed on Windows 2008 Server Foundation as well.

Windows 2008 Server Foundation can be deployed for the following uses:

  • Core Infrastructure
  • Active Directory
  • Terminal Services
  • Applications

More details could be found on Windows 2008 Server Foundation Home
